Ala Mohseni's Bio/Filmography

Ala Mohseni was born in Tehran, Iran in 1972. He began his theater career in 1991, in conjunction with his started studying physics education. He has acted in plays by well-known Iranian directors. In 1997, he joined an advertising company Kelk-e Khial as a writer and creative director for TV comercials.

In 2004, he made The Life, a documentary about one of the pioneers of Iranian cinema, Nosrat Karimi. In 2005, he accomplished a workshop by Abbas Kiarostami and became one of the selected members of the workshop. In 2008 he made My City Pizza a very funny documentary about popularity of pizza in Tehran. The film joind and awarded in many festivals around the world. In 2009, he was awarded an IDFA Jan Vrijman Fund for the project Hidden Kisses, but was unable to finish the film due to the widespread civil unrest that took place after the 2009 Iranian presidential election. 

In 2010 he moved to California, where he made his latest documentary, produced by Maziar Bahari again, “Kiosk, A Generation Destroyed By Madness” which is about the Iranian underground rock band Kiosk, and more generally a story of a generation who have grown up in Iran after the 1979 Islamic Revolution.
